Student guide
Read this before the first assignment.
The chapter always has the same shape. These three rules are the ones students miss.
- Committing Part A freezes it. That is not submission.
- Exporting the PDF is not submission. Upload that file to Blackboard.
- The draft stays in this browser, under your Student ID. Use the same browser each time. On a shared computer, download a backup before you leave.
What the grade is
The course is 100: assignments 30, midterm 30, final 30, participation 10. The nine assignments are 44 rubric points. Your assignment mark is your points ÷ 44 × 30. Assignment 1 is 4 points. Assignments 2–9 are 5 each. A worked grading example.
Practical hour. Lab credit is 0. The practical hour is the coded build, the tests, and the recorded run inside Assignments 3–9, completed in the weekly 90-minute practical session. It is marked. It is not optional.

What can be assessed: the five chapter objectives, the classroom concepts, and the named source review. The toolkit is optional unless your instructor assigns it. Anything else is announced on Blackboard before it is assessed.
The assignment, in one pass
A full worked example, with a strong answer and a weak one, is on How to do an assignment.
- Prepare. Open Study & tools → Required source review. It names two selections, usually 8–12 slides. Answer the five practice questions. They are not graded and they are not exam items.
- Part A. FIT, the chapter artifact, BOUND, ACT and EVIDENCE. About 120–180 words. Use only the supplied facts, and label anything you add as proposed. Then commit. Part A becomes read-only.
- The new evidence opens on the same page when you commit. Nothing to do on Blackboard yet.
- Part B. Say whether the boundary is intact, under pressure, or crossed. Choose RETAIN, REVISE or REPLACE, and justify it. A justified RETAIN scores the same as a change.
- Declare, export, upload. Name any AI tool, what you used it for, and what you checked, or write “No AI used.” Each step has its permitted AI level under the FCIT Generative AI Policy (Option C): see the AI rules on the assignment page and the level of every assessment. Export the PDF, read it, and upload it to Blackboard before the deadline.
Each rubric row says what 1, 0.75, 0.5 and 0 mean. Your instructor may ask a few students, at random, to explain Part A and the refit in about two minutes.
Assignments 3–9
Same method, plus a small Python build. Plan about 80–90 minutes.
New in Assignments 6–9: Part A is written without AI, each assignment has an AI draft to critique, and a 10-minute paper check in class decides whether your mark stands. What is new, with an example. الجديد في الواجبات 6–9: الجزء A بدون ذكاء اصطناعي، ومسودة ذكاء اصطناعي تنقدها، وتحقق ورقي قصير في المحاضرة. اقرأ الشرح مع مثال.

What the pictures leave out
- Build in the browser (about 30 minutes). Write the plan first, then finish the starter: a fault tree in 3, an access rule in 4, a reconciliation in 5, an evidence-only fit check in 6, an adapter in 7, an idempotent service in 8, an honest display in 9. Write at least three tests, including one case that must be refused or must fail safely. From Assignment 4 the course runs your tests against known bugs; each bug must fail one of them. Choose Run my tests and the course checks. Python runs in the browser. Nothing is installed or uploaded. The first run downloads about 10 MB. If a check still fails, keep it and explain it. Changing the code clears the record, so run again before you commit. Part A has to use what the build showed.
- Two different formats. Assignment 6 asks you to critique a colleague’s recommendation. Assignment 9 asks you to review another team’s design. Same five criteria, and say what you would sign instead.
- Time for 1 and 2. Reading and the five questions, 15–25 minutes. With the assignment, 35–55. From Assignment 3, report the time you actually spent. Code, tests and the build record replace extra paragraphs.
Common mistakes
- Citing a slide that is not in the assigned reading.
- Writing a test as if it had been run.
- A boundary such as “if problems occur,” instead of something that can be observed.
- Uploading a draft, or Part A, instead of the final PDF.
- Editing the code after a run and then committing without running it again.
- Tests that only try the easy case.
After feedback, and offline
If your instructor asks for a revision, use the feedback fields, correct or defend the final record, and export again. The first export is kept.
Cards and drafts are stored only in this browser, by chapter and Student ID. Do not clear site data before you export. An earlier edition can be finished from the previous-edition link inside the assignment, with the same ID and browser.
Offline: download the chapter ZIP from the learning path, extract all of it, and open START-HERE.html. Keep the folders together.
For instructors
Teaching notes are not on this page. The instructor guide covers presenter mode, the three stations, when the new evidence opens, and marking.
