FOR INSTRUCTORS · OWNERSHIP CHECK

Two-minute micro-viva

A short conversation that checks whether a student can explain their own submitted reasoning. It is the main safeguard now that well-written answers can be generated: written work and oral explanation should agree. It is not an oral exam and needs no preparation by the student beyond knowing their own work.

  1. Choose. After the final PDFs arrive, pick 3–5 students per section at random with the picker below, and a few more whose submissions raise a concern.
  2. Ask one question. Open the student's PDF, then ask one question from the bank for that assignment. Let them answer without the PDF for the first minute.
  3. Record. Note agreement: agrees, partly agrees or does not agree, with one line of evidence.
  4. Count. Download the sheet as CSV, fill the agreement column, and load it on the evidence page.
  5. Follow up. “Partly” is feedback, not a penalty. If the explanation does not agree with the written work, review the submission under the course academic-integrity policy.

Question bank

Each question asks about the student's own submitted reasoning, so it can be public. Pick one; follow up with “why?” once.
